But it's more like a big dose of comfortable Michael McKintyre, to be honest. Unlike Kevin Bridges, he goes for the safe route and bases his act around his family, Elvis and Liverpool Football Club. It's like wearing a comfy pair of slippers - cosy but unexciting. And again, unlike Kevin Bridges who focuses on sharp observation around him well beyond just his family - Bishop settles for discussing his teenage sons (no Les Dawson mother in law jokes here!). Family observation is unlikely to be as acidic as political or social commentary. He also seems to be in awe of what he has achieved. That's fine but he does need to get over it and move on. He's a funny man on TV but here he misses the chance to make some really sharp observations - he is in Liverpool for goodness sake but comes across like he is on stage in Grimsby (no offence to Grimsby). Again, compared with comedians more edgy than him, he almost completely fails to get a rapport going with the somewhat subdued audience - and that says a lot. He is talking at them whereas great comedians get the audience to be part of the dialogue, part of the experience. Having seen John Bishop on TV many times over the past year, I expected his first DVD – recorded in his home city of Liverpool – to be pin-sharp and edgy. I love Paris and I love art and i wanted to read a book that could inform me about the two and this book is perfect.

I brought it thinking it would be just a book to read for pleasure but it is a very useful guide for art lovers as tourists in the city!!

It includes a road map of the city towards the front and throughout the book it gives a map of each area within the city and higlights its main points of interest and then follows this up with information about each place.

This book would be perfect for anyone visiting the city who is interested in art, I would read it befor the trip and then take it with you to help guide you around the city.

The film was ok, quite enjoyed it although the I found a few of the characters weren’t explored deep enough in the time available but this stands up well against the BBC series, though the latter is better.

However, I don’t usually feel compelled to leave reviews but the quality of the picture on the disc is rubbish. I just wanted to say that it’s probably not worth buying on bluray. Apparently the director had this graded to look as if it had film grain (I’ve put the link below) but I really found this annoying and intrusive.

So the 2 stars is only for the bluray disc presentation.
